3-6 years

3 to 6 years old children develop many motor skills – fine and gross. Gross motor skills are challenged by e.g. climbing nets, slides and tube slides – items that also encourage sense of balance and the understanding of cause and effect.

Fine motor skills are supported in the sandbox: Playing with sand and water helps develop the hands’ motor and coordination skills. Fine motor skills are needed later when learning to hold a pencil.

Children in this age group start playing more with each other, and especially role plays are very popular. In role plays, children learn to deal with other children and their scopes, and role plays contribute to forwarding language and social skills.
