Kolding Sygehus Kolding Hospital’s playground was created in close collaboration with The Danish Hospital Clowns from the Triangle Region Denmark. The plan for this project was to create a communal outdoor space, which could give the hospitalized children and their families a place to breathe. Simultaneously, the playground had to be maintenance-free, in order to minimize operational time and economy. The playground was developed in collaboration with the children’s ward’s pedagogues, physiotherapist, and nurses to ensure it creates room for immersion, play, and relaxation. A special requirement was easy accessibility for wheelchairs and people with walking difficulties. The playground has multiple times been highlighted in connection with other projects that wishes to find solutions for children with different challenges. Kildemosen, Kolding Kildemosen is Kolding’s biggest integrated institution, with space for 260 children in the ages 0-6 years old. The vision for the institution was to create four little “houses” inside a larger one, and this vision is reflected in the playgrounds for the nursery and kindergarten. The playground for the nursery is designed with four little playground areas with the MiniPlay series. Here it was important to create different play zones and, at the same time, allow for an easy overview for the personnel. The playground for the kindergarten consists of four bigger playground areas with the Explore series. Here, the idea is to create play zones for immersion and roleplaying, as well as physical and motor expression.
Nannasgade, Copenhagen A gathering point for children of all ages What is the right solution if we want a playground that meets the needs of children of all ages? The housing association VIBO in Nannasgade in Copenhagen asked itself this very question. And in collaboration with LEDON, the choice fell on the large Saldor play system for the biggest children combined with the pirate bow section and a play kitchen for the smallest. Saldor is a popular system because it encourages games like ‘tag’ and ‘the floor is lava’. Together with the play kitchen, the pirate bow section creates a zone for the youngest children, where they are not disturbed by older children tearing around. The playground should be a place where children of different ages can come together, and LEDON has achieved this aim, says chair of the housing association, Michael Willer Jensen: We need to accommodate a target group spanning from 3 years old and right up to 13-14 years. We therefore went for LEDON’s suggestion of an off-roader that appeals to young children, and at the other end a bird’s nest that can accommodate 5-6 young people at once. The climbing system is perfect for the 5 to 9-year-olds. It’s an incredibly good solution. LEDON has handled the task very professionally, and listened very closely to us. Søvænget, Rødekro The play system stimulates motor skills The children move full speed ahead when they whiz down the tunnel slide or climb over the suspension bridge on the playground belonging to the housing association Domea at Søvænget in Rødekro. Here they have constructed a playground that consists of LEDON’s big Zulu playsystem, the Off-Roader, a large module swing frame and the butterfly seesaw. When the children climb on the playground they make a lot of cross-body movements, which strengthens their arms and legs as well as the interaction between the two sides of the brain. Generally it is good for the children’s coordination and balance to be active and get rosy cheeks on the new playground. And they can use their acquired motor skills when they have to go to school and for example learn math.
